Vintage Truck Doors Logo

Have you ever been to Roosterpoot, Tennessee?  No?  Me neither.  Probably because it doesn't exist except to my brother maybe.

Well kidding aside, it isn't a real place but my brother is and he owns a real 1950s model Ford truck.  He owns a few vintage trucks and he has one in particular that he wanted me to paint a logo on the doors.  No stress there!!  It's just the doors of your vintage truck!

It seems the "thing" to do in the old hot rod truck world right now is to create a vintage looking logo on the doors...even distressing and aging the logo.  Well, that's right up my alley so I agreed to do it.

I won't go into lengthy details on how I did it because, really, who's ever gonna need this info.  BUT, I thought you'd enjoy seeing a snapshot of the process and the finished doors.  I think the design process took the longest.  I used Photoshop and arranged the lettering and rooster design.  After I printed it, I enlarged it so that I could make a stencil for the doors.  Here's the first layer (candy apple red) on the door.

Ok, that was the hardest part!  Putting that first layer of paint on the door.  It was somewhat forgiving in that the doors were painted in a flat black so any goof ups could be sanded and repainted with flat black.  Thankfully, I didn't have to do that.

Next step was to begin adding the white detail to the lettering and image.  So far, so good.

More detailing by adding the yellow and black paint.  Looking pretty good!

Got everything painted!  The next step my husband almost couldn't stand to watch.  I took sandpaper to the whole thing and began distressing it...heavily.

I r-e-a-l-l-y liked the finished distressed look.  I think it gave the rooster even more attitude ;)

It took me a few weeks from start to finish.  I called my brother to let him know they were finished but that I wouldn't send him a photo as I wanted him to be surprised when he saw them for the first time.  Well, that didn't last long.  He lives about 3 hours away so the soonest he could come was about a week out.  I broke down and posted a photo on Facebook for him to see.  He loved them.

And, after he got them back home, I asked for a photo with them on the truck!  (I knew it would be great!)

Here's what I got:

Oh well, I was very thankful for the photo I did get.  I'll try to grab another one when I'm home at Christmas.  If I lived closer to him, you better believe I'd be using his trucks for some killer photo shoots!

Thanks for stopping by and God bless!

A Coffee Bar for Your Kitchen

If you follow me on Instagram or Facebook, you probably saw the adorable, vintage truck my hubby bought me for an anniversary present.  It's a cream-colored 1959 Ford (according to my brother who is an expert on these things).

I knew with a truck bed like that, it had to hold something.  Something like sugar and creamer in my coffee area.

I think it fits nicely with the "Lunch Now Being Served" sign from World Market.

The galvanized pedestals were made from buckets and old pie pans (tutorial here).  They stack perfectly under the cabinet to hold K-cups and sweeteners.

If you happen to be a serious coffee drink like me, I have to tell you about this machine.   Ever since I first saw "You've Got Mail," I've been in love with the idea of having a real, at-home espresso machine.  You know the scene where Parker Posey comes running into the kitchen and is telling the espresso machine to "hurry, hurry, hurry!"  And later, Tom Hanks says she makes coffee nervous, lol!  I love that movie.  Ok, I digress :)

(borrowed this from Between Naps on the Porch.net)

As if that wasn't enough, later I was reading Edie's blog, Life In Grace, and saw her amazing beverage area.  that's it.  I knew I had to have one. (By the way, Edie has an amazing set up and shares it in her hospitality ebook.)  So, the searching and the saving-up began.

I've had this one for a couple of years and I l-o-v-e it.  I researched several websites and read several reviews before purchasing this.  It is an investment, but well worth it.  I got this one from Whole Latte Love.  Their website offers video tutorials for making all sorts of coffee based drinks as well as machine maintenance.  They're the bomb!

If you love your lattes and cappuccinos, with the Gaggia Brera you can make them just like the coffee shops.  A good machine and a quality coffee bean make all the difference.  The Brera model is a super automatic...meaning with the touch of a button, the beans are ground, pressed, brewed, and then dumped into a bin.  All you do is push the button and wait about 30 seconds for delicious espresso.  It also has a Pannarello steam wand to froth milk or to dispense hot water for tea.  I'm telling you, it does it all.  I use mine every day.  It takes up very little counter space and the water take and grounds holder are both accessible from the front.  Something I learned to look for in a machine.

Whole Latte Love has an Amazon store so you can check it out, I have found that these machines are a little cheaper through Amazon and if you have prime, that's free shipping!

Here's a link to the Gaggia Brera like mine:

By the way, if you're spending a few dollars every day or every other day like me, this machine actually paid for itself within a few months.  (My husband wouldn't quite word it like that but hey, I did the math and it's true!)

If you're wondering about the best coffee bean, I do buy Starbucks Espresso Roast from the grocery store (with coupon!) or Lavazza from World Market.  They really tastes the best when it comes to making espresso.

So, whadda ya say?  Wanna grab some coffee?

Thanks for stopping by and God bless!

Pumpkins and a Vintage Tonka Truck

This past weekend, my husband and I visited some antique stores in a small, nearby town.   I picked up a few things including this vintage Tonka truck.  My hubby had one like it when he was little.  I would love to have one that was all metal but those are out of my price range.

I thought the yellow would look cute with the pumpkins out front.  So I loaded up the back with a pile of pumpkins.

This sits on the front sidewalk near my old bushel basket of geraniums.

The temperatures dropped this weekend and there was a threat of frost...whaaaat?  I'm not ready for that.  I'm hoping my geraniums have a little bit longer to bloom.  They're one of my favorites.

My figs aren't ripe yet either, so please let there be a few more weeks of warm temperatures.  Blue skies and 70s...yep, that'd be perfect :)

After decorating a little more out front, I got in the mood to tweak the living room as well.

Aren't those the best fake leaves?  I wish I could remember where I got them.  It was probably the thrift store, which means I can't go back and get more :(  Oh well, at least these were a bargain.

Thanks for stopping by and God bless!!
