A Hunt Themed Office Makeover

I've been wanting to makeover my office (aka dining room) for a while now.  It had potential to be a nice space but the busyness of life and my own procrastination had left it unorganized and less than pleasing looking.

Well, fast forward to a few weeks ago when I found an amazing antique table online (for $25 including chairs, crazy, I know!) AND then Edie, my 18 year old daughter, mentioned her interest in interior decorating, more specifically learning staging for real estate.  Hello makeover time!!

So, let's look at the unorganized, no-plan BEFORE photos:

We began by removing everything from the walls, putting extra tchotchkes in totes, and patching nail holes.  My favorite pieces that remained all had a similar theme...dogs and horses...so a hunt theme seemed obvious. 

Next, we decided to move the bookcases on a different wall to elongate the room.  I liked them flanking the window but it did make the room seem smaller.  We also added a 6-foot shelf between the two bookcases to create a type of credenza behind my desk.

Beautiful new table - notice the pull ring on the right side.  It releases a leaf that pops up in the middle of the table!  Cool design

Copper Scottie dog is a recent thrift store find...LOVE him!

These round brass frames were found at a thrift store many years ago.  I don't know the history of them but they have convex glass in them.  I added a textured paper background and glued vintage toy horses inside each one.

This tole planter has a simple design on one side.  I added my initials using a gold paint pin to the other side.  

The bookends were ordered from Joss & Main. 

I found these prints at Goodwill a couple of years ago and loved them.  They were $7.99 each.  The horse hook in the middle is from Hobby Lobby's clearance section (love their clearance items!) and the old horse bit was picked up at the scrap yard.

This!  This candle is a-m-a-z-i-n-g!  My all time favorite scent that smells good all year round.  I get mine locally but you can find them at Anthropologie or a little cheaper on Amazon.  

  It's the Aspen Bay Capri Blue Volcano Candle (affiliate link).  Try it!  You won't regret it!

I have to clarify here.  This beautiful makeover was done pretty much by Edie.  I think she's got an eye for decorating and a bright future ahead.

An Organized Workroom Part 2

  

Welcome back!  I'm so glad you joined me for part two of my Organized Workroom post.  If you missed part 1, you can check it out here:  An Organized Workroom Post 1

Today, I'm showing you more of the storage methods I use in my workroom.  Since I do altered art projects along with my DIY home projects, it requires hoarding keeping lots of various doodads, tchotchkes, treasures.  My family would probably disagree but that's my story and I'm sticking to it.

Seriously, it's not really hoarding if it's organized, right???  Nevermind, don't answer that.

a vintage RC cola crate hung on the side of a cabinet holds my many pieces of fabric scraps

I use a chalkboard near the door to write down my projects and materials needed.
This vintage match holder is perfect to hold extra chalk.

French style vintage stereo cabinet, gutted, painted, and fabric panels added

This old stereo cabinet was gutted and now used to store my supplies.
The old pull-out turntable drawer works perfectly for holding lots of paint bottles.
The vintage apothecary jars hold everything from junk metal pieces to rubber stamps.

Jars and jars of treasures...buttons, knobs, die, keys, dominoes, clothespin, tags, and more!

Wine box, wooden bowl, jar, and other dishes help keep things contained

An old miner's basket hung from the ceiling with pulleys holds spools of ribbons.  Out of the way but still within reach!

An old frame with chicken wire, broken teapot and sugar bowl are great for holding tools

Denim and Diamonds Charity Auction Displays

Last fall, I was privileged to help Greenhouse Ministries with their Denim and Diamonds auction.  It was a fun theme and being held at a local historic mill was the perfect setting.  The Readyville Mill,  formerly a working flour mill, is now a restaurant and a great location for any event.

Inside is furnished with a collection of old tables and chairs as well as items from the mills working days.  My task for the event was to display the items up for auction.  

Using long tables at the back of the room, I covered them with blue and white gingham tablecloths.  Greenhouse already owned several round blue and white tablecloths so that's what we used and I think they worked just fine.

The auction format was a little different than a live or silent bid auction.  Here, guests purchased numbered tickets and then used the ticket to place a bid (or chance) for an item.  The more tickets you placed in the jar, the better your chance to win the item.  

I used mason jars to hold the tickets and made a tag with the auction item's number on it so guests would know which jar went to each item.  The tag was a simple wood slice with chalkboard paint and tied on with twine and strips of old jeans.  You can find my easy tutorial for the tags here.

A lot of the donated auction items were gift certificates and gift cards. I used cowboy boots as display stands for each.  Tucking a bandanna in the top of each boot completed the display.  

Those were all my own, personal cowboy boots.  I may or may not have a boot addiction.  

Here are a few of the larger donated items that were won during a live auction at the end of the evening.

I have to state here that the corn hole game was made and donated by my 14 year old daughter, Allie.  I'm pretty durn proud of her DIY skills!

Allie was with me that night and it was so much fun to watch the bids go higher and higher for the corn hole set.  It sold for $200!
