Great Game to Play at a Party - Left Right Center

great game for parties left-right-center

We celebrated my 50th (gosh, that number just looks wrong!) earlier this month.  Oh my goodness, I had so much fun!

My sister and daughters threw the party for me which made it even more enjoyable!

My nephew-in-law-to-be was DJ for the evening.  We have to have music because we are a dancing family.

Well, at least we think we are...the videos tend to tell a different story.

Never watch yourself dance on video.

Ever.

You're welcome.

Rustic Candle Chandelier

I saw a version of this rustic chandelier on Pinterest and wanted to make a candle version to hang outside for an upcoming party.  So off to my hoard of scrap wood to see what I could come up with.

Beautiful Coffee Filter Flowers

beautiful coffee filter flowers diy project

I love fresh cut peonies for the home.  Problem is...I can't grow peonies!  Having 8 acres, you would think I could find a spot that they would love and thrive in.  So far, I haven't found it.

However, I came up with this easy to make "peony" using coffee filters and washable markers.  They are a quick DIY project.  The hardest part is waiting for them to dry!

Here's what you'll need:

1 package of white coffee filters
washable markers in the color of your flower choice
craft glue
natural peat pots
burlap ribbon
scissors
a paper plate
a shallow bowl

To begin, grab about 10 filters (doesn't have to be the exact amount) and cut the ridges off of the filters.  You don't even have to be exact in cutting the same amount off of each.  Cut some short and some long.  This will make the petals of the flower.

Next, take the washable marker that you've chosen for your flower color.  Color (like a 2 year old) around the top of the filters.  You don't have to separate the stack.  Just color the tops of the inside filter and the outside filter.  The color will bleed through to the others.

I used a dark pink and a purple for this color.  They will bleed into one beautiful color as we go along.  No worries ;)

Fill the bowl with about an inch of water.  (Ignore the orange color in the photo...took the pic after making the orange flower.)

Now take the stack of filters with the colored edges and dip the tips into the water.  Hold it there for about 5 seconds so it will absorb water.

Now for the hard part.  Waiting.  Place the stack of wet filters upside down on a plate and allow to dry.  It may take a few hours.

Once they are dry, pull the filters apart and pinch each filter together at the bottom.  Do this to each filter EXCEPT ONE in the stack.  You will keep the last one to glue the others into.

After you've pinched each of the filters, take the last one and begin gluing the others into the center.  I basically just put a glob of glue into the center of the last one and added the pinched filters one by one.  Pinch them together once they're all in and you should have your "peony" bloom!

Now, I decided I wanted to use these cute peat pots that I picked up at the DG (less than $2 for 8) to hold my flowers.

Before adding the bloom, let's dress the peat pot up with some burlap ribbon and a bow.

Wrap a length of the ribbon around and glue.  Since the pot is tapered, it won't lie flat unless you angle the ends up.  Tie a burlap bow and glue to the peat pot.  To secure the bloom in the pot, run a bead of glue around the top edge of the peat pot and carefully mash the bloom in.

That's it!  Let's see how they look.

Beautiful Home Tour in Franklin Tennessee

This past week I was honored to be invited to a small get together for #NashvilleInfluencers, Nashville area bloggers, designers, columnists, television hosts, and media specialists.  It was hosted by Dana Tucker and Nancy McNulty of Forest Home Media and was held at Dana's beautiful home in Franklin.

After we all got to meet each other, chat, and refresh ourselves with some delicious Southern Breeze punch (recipe at the end of the post), margaritas, wine, and tasty appetizers, Dana treated us all to a tour of her home.  And, I get to share it with you!

We started in the foyer.  Notice the ceiling.  Rather than remove the original popcorn ceiling, they chose to cover it with these beautiful tiles.  Love the look!

Dana and her husband are the creative genius behind Bella-Tucker Decorative Finishes (you'll notice all of the beautiful painting techniques in the following pictures.)  They painted the hallway with large gray and white stripes.  The scale works perfect here.

Check out the family room!  They changed the color of the brick with paint and added a piece of rusted metal roofing above.

Adjacent to the family room is a sitting area.  They stenciled this beautiful pattern on one wall.  Like the stripes in the foyer and hallway, the scale of this pattern works perfectly on this large wall.

This bedroom belongs to Dana's daughter.  I didn't capture how great this room really looked.
Another beautiful wall!

Their son's room with plank wall and distressed closet doors...perfect for a boy!

The sitting area in the kitchen.  Did you notice the shimmer on the wall?  It's silver and it's gorgeous.

This is in her kitchen leading to the deck.  Who knew you could put a screen door on French doors?  Ok, Dana knew and she did it.  I'm making a mental note for any French doors in my future.

Dana's whole house is incredible but I think this is my favorite room.  It's her home office...lots of natural light, great vintage pieces, and a beautiful chandelier...l-o-v-e it!

Although there were many more, I've got one last room to share.  This one is downstairs and has a silver wall like the kitchen.  And, look at the floor.  Know what that is?

It's a stencil on painted concrete.  Really, it is!
It looks so good, it's hard to believe that's a concrete floor.

Dana's house is even better looking in person.  I hope you enjoyed the tour. Here's the Southern Breeze punch recipe I promised.  It came from Carmen Johnston, the garden lifestyle expert with Southern Living Plant Collection, who attended the party as well.

Southern Breeze

1 cup sugar
7 cups water
1 (0.22 ounce) envelope unsweetened blue raspberry lemonade mix
1 (6-ounce) can frozen lemonade concentrate, thawed
1 (46 ounce) can unsweetened pineapple juice, chilled
1 (2-liter) bottle ginger ale, chilled

Stir together first 4 ingredients in a 2-quart pitcher; pour evenly into 5 ice cube trays, and freeze at least 8 hours.  Combine pineapple juice and ginger ale, serve over raspberry ice cubes

Note:  The raspberry ice cubes can be made in advance and stored in heavy-duty zip-top plastic bags in the freezer until ready to serve.

Thanks for stopping by and God bless!
